Default Calne National Meet - Review

The 10th National Meet Sunday 6th March 2011

The Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum established in 1962 played host to the club's first national get together of 2011.

This was a lovely venue in which to meet and offered a wide selection of classic exhibits from yester-year.

The day began with the arrival of the Club team at 9:15am to get things set for the official opening time of 10:30am.
To say it was a bit nippy would have been the understatement of the year, but the sun was out, and we could ask for no more.

After parking the team's cars up and assembling the brand new gazebo (as the last one fell foal to 'Typhoon Gaydon')
Work began on erecting the various flags and signs to tell of our presence.

No sooner had this begun when some of the early bird members started to arrive
and put Actros, Dragrad, and Jake amongst others through their paces.

The place soon filled up and we had a total of 59 cars, and 88 people in attendance.

Plenty of tourers were there too

There were cars in a variety of colours including Trophy Blue and Solar Red

as well as a 'Flying Banana' no less...well actually a Sunspot Monogram ZT

No it's not a karaoke, but me conducting the raffle, much to the bemusement of Christopher and Parker

Actros took on the role of 'official bucket holder'

Then came the award for best car in show and it went this year to Cliff (Teflon)

With his pristine example of a very well maintained 75 Connoisseur in Monogram Lagoon

The day continued until it was time to pack away, and by 5pm the last men standing finally went their separate ways,
my thanks to Neil Coupland for staying to the bitter end.

Many thanks also to all those who made this event the great day it was, and to CMWI and others for the use of these images.

Default 11th National Meet - Flixton

The second National Meet of 2011 was held on Sunday September 18th
at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum in Flixton, Suffolk. This was the club's 11th National Gathering.

Members started arriving from 10am and the last few left at 5pm.

61 cars attended and were parked in between the varied array of aircraft on display there, making this a rather unique setting for a National.

The weather was kind, which helped make the day a tremendous success.

Many thanks go to member Woolleysox for donating a brand new flag depicting the club's logo which we flew with pride all day.

There were certainly some magnificent machines on view

With a wide selection of saloons, tourers, MGs and Rovers in many different guises

The Club Team were on hand as usual to present the raffle,
and member Starbug2 managed to clean up with most of the prizes including an LCD Digital TV

Some very shiny cars nestled between some stunning exhibits

Default 2011 NEC Classic Motor Show - Review

November 11th 12th & 13th saw the club attending the NEC Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham for the second year running.

We were inundated with visitors many of whom didn't know of the club's existence, which was exactly why we were there.
As a result we acquired 31 new members at the show, with the promise of many more going to register when they got home.

Duotone, Tony Bubble, Trophy Yellow Mark, and Jezzer 1 all supplied their gleeming cars for display on our stand,
and you couldn't hope to find a wider choice of vehicles to show off the marque.

Welcome to our stand, and hello Duotone

Rovers to the left, and MGs here to the right

Why not take a seat?

Or watch a bit of tele

There's plenty to see

Default Pride Of Longbridge 2012

Pride of Longbridge 2012

This year's first National Meet was centred around a two day event. The MGR enthusiasts’ weekend commenced with the 7th annual Pride of Longbridge rally held on Saturday April 14th at Cofton Park which is just across Lowhill Lane from the factory now operated by MG Motors. This event, organised by the Austin Longbridge Federation, featured 1100 cars over 100 of which belonging to our members, so the club was well represented. In total over 3000 people were at the event which is rapidly becoming the largest gathering of its type in the world.

Default 12th National Meet - Avoncroft

12th National Meet - Avoncroft

The first National Meet of 2012 was held on Sunday 15th April 2012 at the Avoncroft Museum in Stoke Heath, Bromsgrove.

The MGR enthusiasts’ weekend now continued with a visit to the Avoncroft Open Air Museum in Bromsgrove where many interesting buildings collected from around the country are on view. Proceedings commenced at 10:30am with the added benefit of warmer weather, the previous day at Longbridge had been rather chilly. Over 100 cars attended which did rather stretch the parking skills of Actros and crew.

An early example of a 75

A supercharged ZT260, one of the nine V8’s that were at the event

Members from across Europe attended

Member Windrush was honoured with a special award for services to the club

Christopher presented the award for best car in show to Devilish for his amazing Firefrost Rover 75 Tourer

The Gryphon award winning Firefrost tourer with “OVP” to the right making a welcome appearence

It had been a rather pleasant day in the company of like minded people with some amazing vehicles on show, but unfortunately like all good things it had to come to a close and by 5:00pm most had started their journey home.

Default 13th National Meet - Lakeland Motor Museum

13th National Meet - Lakeland Motor Museum

The second National Meet of 2012 was held on Sunday 9th September 2012 at the Lakeland Motor Museum near Backbarrow, Ulverston.

The museum is located in a beautiful part of the Lake District and houses some very interesting vehicles together with a display dedicated to the Campbell’s and their record breaking machines.

Several with MG-Rover lineage – images courtesy of starbug2

Exhibits from the Campbell display - images courtesy of starbug2

The day dawned rather misty but it was soon burnt off by the morning sun. Members started arriving from 10:00am, they then made their way to the clubs gazebo to register ready for the event. A visit to the museum was then top of the list of most members before visiting the café for refreshments.

Cowley built 75’s were well represented including these three beauties

The sunspot kinetic Flying Banana

The normal interest shown in one of the V8’s

That spent a lot of time with an open bonnet

The customary raffle now ensued with the normal hilarity presided over by Reebs and Actros

One of the many raffle winning members

It had been a great meet at an excellent venue with like minded people for company and as the day drew to a close members started to make their journey home.

Default Classic Motor Show 2012

Classic Motor Show 2012

November 16th, 17th & 18th saw the club at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham for the third year in succession.

Our stand was located right beside the Live Stage where the likes of the “Wheeler Dealers” were featured. Due to this we were kept very busy with enquiries regarding the fine examples of the marque that were being shown. As a result we had many new members register whilst at the event or promise so to do on their return home.

Thanks go to FLYING BANANA, juzza0 and SD1too who supplied their immaculate cars for display on our stand.

14th National Meet
National Botanic Garden of Wales

The first National meet of 2013 was held on Sunday 17th March 2013 at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire.

The gardens are located in a really beautiful part of the south wales countryside

The day dawned rather misty

But the sun managed to break through to everybody’s relief

Proceedings commenced with an emotional presentation of a rebuilt “Olga” to Jeff, instigated by Eurorover.

The quite amazing Rover 150 'Push me, pull you' car was there

and we attracted members from all over the UK with 47 cars attending

After an update about the Club from Christopher and Reebs, proceedings moved on to the raffle with the ever helpful assistance of actros

To conclude the day, the Gryphon award for best car in show was this year presented to vindaloo

For his winning car, this spectacular Seafrost Blue Rover 75 Connoisseur 1.8T

Default Pride of Longbridge 2013

Pride of Longbridge 2013

The 8th annual Pride of Longbridge rally was held on Saturday 13th April 2013 at Cofton Park, which is across the road from the factory on Lowhill Lane, Birmingham. The event is organised by the Austin Longbridge Federation together with the Rover Community Action Trust to celebrate the products of the Longbridge factory

Due to the inclement weather prior to the event and the terrain of Cofton Park itself, parking could not be as previous years, however the stewards were on hand to assist and get all parked efficiently, if not all together

Though the day started reasonably the weather soon deteriorated and by mid-morning a steady drizzle had set in, however this didn’t dampen the spirits of most at the event which had attracted over 1000 vehicles

A gorgeous P5B

Well ahead of its time the P6

There was great interest shown in the MG Lifestyle ZT-T

Default 15th National Meet - AeroVenture

15th National Meet - AeroVenture

The second National meet of 2013 was held on Sunday 8th September 2013 at AeroVenture, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and followed on from a successful spanner and family gathering the day before.

A total of 61 cars arrived at the aircraft museum for the National and thanks to the efforts of club members Andy Willi and Actros in hosting a spanner day with evening BBQ and quiz the day before, many members were able to make a weekend of it camping overnight for the club's 15th National meet the following day.

The weather was fine and the company excellent as many old friends met up once more and lots of new faces arrived too.

A brace of beauties under the flags

ZTs and 75s stood side by side

As did saloons with tourers

A Cimarron Green tourer

And a not so disappointing grey ZT saloon

A nice use of an MG7 bumper

The unique MG Lifestyle ZT-T with boomerang spoiler

Members gathered to hear the club news and take part in the raffle

'Two fat ladies'...or is it 'legs eleven'

Voted best Rover 75 of the day: Vindaloo's Seafrost Blue

And best MG ZT went to Juzza0's Shot Silk Tourer

Special thanks to members Canonite, FLYING BANANA, Fusilier, Mark2000cc & starbug2 for their images of the event.
