It will be interesting to see if anything does come out in the wash, I'll be surprised if something doesn't. I know that some hedge funds had bet on TC failing and they were not at all keen on a rescue package. It is not unknown for them to act to trigger a payout and I have seen reports that this will likely have come to pass had such a package gained any traction. Sad to hear of TC crew being caught downroute in this outwith any protection that is afforded to their passengers.

Seems like there's been quite a lot going on with our lot prior to the collapse.

I was reading this morning the effects will be widespread and felt by local councils across the country with the closure of high street shops to the tune £12million per year in lost business rates.

In my local town they have temporarily suspended parking charges, having spent an arm and a leg on new solar powered ticket machines. Result - the place is buzzing, even on a weekday.

Are you aware that Thomas Cook is no longer a British owned Company and has not been for some years,It also has a Swiss CEO.SO why should the UK government Bail TC out?

Also I believe that the EU blocked an attempt to help TC out.

Thank you, yes, I was aware of that. My primary concern was the effect on the employees both here and elsewhere as well as the tourist industries in the world-wide locations. I daresay that was a subject in the minds of the government in refusal to cooperate. That's why I referred to the bonuses, fees, and share options of directors. Did I give the impression I was in favour of a UK bail out? I thought I referenced Philp Green and Mike Astley to avoid confusion.

I was supporting some of the Thomas Cook workers yesterday.
The way they were treated is truly awful, yesterday would have been their payday - sadly the bills still fall due.

After speaking to them in Glasgow yesterday, I really hope those who seem to have profited out of this pay the price - I doubt they will do though.
