Default 2.5 V6 Performance issue

I am fortunate enough to have both a 2.0L Diesel (05) and a 2.5 V6 75 (W plate), The Diesel goes like a rocket (no modding - yet) but the 2.5 V6 accelerates like a milk float, and struggles to make 90 (where it's allowed obviously). I've had the V6 for 6 or 7 years and never really noticed the performance issue untill I got the diesel which made me realise how slow the V6 is.

Has anyone else come across a similar problem with the V6 being a little sluggish? Or is mine just in need of a darn good tuning? Or is the deisel just a lot faster?

Regards

Andrew

VIS valves/ inlet manifold anyone?

Sorry I live in DERV land so the KV6 is a bit of a mystery to me, but you read these things! The V6 I have had a ride in was a Y reg and went like the preverbial horses droppings of a shovel. Can't remember whether the 2.0 or the 2.5 though.

Your V6 should be faster in all respects than your Diesel except maybe 5th gear acceleration, better get it checked over is it auto or manual?
Or maybe a cheaper option, take it to a rolling road and see what it is producing

If it is running out of go at 90 something is not right.

My 2.5 is accelerating fine up to 120mph, then the acceleration isn't that great but goes up to 130ish...
Probably you need to shift into 4th

Definitely summat wrong. I also have the pleasure of owning both, and despite the derv having been Ronned, I still go for the v6 when I'm after a more enthusiastic run.

Andy, you're just down the road from me (sort of) If you would like to see how the KV6 should go then give me a shout...

If you can hear rattles (loud ones) from under the hood then you have VIS troubles. Also check your air filter is clean and your putting decent fuel in the tank. If yours is an auto then when was the 'box last checked/oil change? Come to mention it, when was the last service on the car? If all of these were recent things (ie on schedule according to MGR recommendations) then somethings amiss.

Thanks Simon, I might take you up on your kind offer

Our car is an auto, it was last serviced at 65000 miles, including cam belt change, and had a full service, that was 4000 miles ago. It has always been serviced at the correct intervals and has to my mind never been quick, ever since we bought it 7 years ago. I just assumed that given the leather and the wood and all that soundproofing etc, that it was a heavy old thing and only perfomed at this level.

There are no unusual knocking noises comming from the bonnet area, but two things I have observed, the accelerator travels a long way befroe much happens and when accelerating from about 65 in Drive, there's a lot more revving noise but not much action. It seem to take a long time to pick up speed. Is this a sympton of an autobox about to fail?

Thanks for your comments

I had the same on my 2.0 V6 when I first got it. I adjusted the throttle cable to take out the slack and it transformed the car - much more responsive and far more top end performance. Best of all, it was a 10 minute, no cost fix.

Hope this helps,

Cliff

Yes good point Teflon, worth checking.

This is a common "mod" on Citroen HDI engined cars as the throttle cable is held on by a clip and often these were not properly fitted leading to a fair degree of free travel and at the other end only a partially open throttle, most owners never even knew about it!

Mind you it used to work wonders for the MPG!
