Hi All..... bit of help please!!!!
Hey guys,
New to the forum but been having a good look around. Excellent site with lots of great information! Anyhow I have a bit of an issue hopefully someone can help with....... Car is a 2002 MG ZT+ 190 (2.5 V6) 65k miles Problem im having is heaters wont blow hot air (both sides) with climate set to HI or 28 degrees in ECON mode. I have removed the heater matrix today and flushed it through with a hose pipe and had a good clear flow through both pipes, I also filled with hot water and the whole thing got hot. I refitted the matrix, bled and topped up the coolant and run the car (heaters off) until fans kick in then put the heating on..... still no hot air! Took car for a run & heater got warmer the higher the revs, when revs up at around 4k heater is giving boiling air but quickly gets cold again as the revs drop..... at a standstill I felt the two pipes going to heater matrix and bottom was red hot but top was cool..... I have a feeling there is not much pressure in the coolant system (or an air lock) as when I remove the expantion tank cap I only get a bit of a hiss.... I am going to check and top up the coolant again in the morning and see if anything happens Any help anyone can give would be very much appreciated!!!!! Sorry its a bit long winded but want to get to the bottom of this before we need to start using the heaters...... Many Thanks in advance. |

Welcome along......
You really need to get the system vacuum filled to ensure that there are no air locks. However, there is a way of doing it manually, and if you have a hunt around you should find it.

Thank for the replys.
As the bottom (in) feed to the heater matrix is red hot but the top (out) stays cold would this point to a blockage somewhere? When the revs rise there is enough pressure to push through it? Seems like the logical explanation to me...... Gonna have to remove it and have a go at flushing it through again I think. Cheers. |

Thanks again for the replys!
Temp gauge seems fine, it gets up to temp nice and quick so I doubt the thermostat is stuck open (may be wrong mind) Im thinking it could be a faulty heater matrix, gonna get it out again and try and flush it through again..... failing that ill get another and see if that solves it! Many Thanks. |

My problem is very similar...but it does get hot when put on 'Hi'...however, it happens in 'Econ' or normal...as you say, it gets warmer the higher the revs...I shall follow this with interest.

Bit of an update guys, I have managed to source a replacement Heater Matrix at a local dismantlers.... its out of a Rover 75 but should be ok?
Anyway its being stripped from the car first thing in the morning so I will be fitting it tomorrow afternoon. I know that as its used there is no guarantee to be working ok (they will take it back if not) but its something else to try. I put a request on partfinder etc and have been offered 4 all at about £60 delivered so this could be another route. Failing this a new one it will have to be..... but lets hope not! I shall update tomorrow when the replacement matrix is in place. Cheers. |
