Tyre Prices - Ouch!
Because one of my car's rear tyres was nearing 2mm tread in places I decided to get it changed while there's still some grip. I tend to favour Pirelli P6000s on my cars (and this was the only tyre left that wasn't one) so I wasn't expecting it to be cheap, but after a 10% discount at the local ATS... £138.51 for one 215/55 WR16
Still getting over the shock. Even for a 'premium' tyre I'm sure that's ever so slightly excessive bearing in mind I recently bought a set of five slightly smaller 175/65 R14 P6000s (unfitted) for another car from MyTyres for £250 delivered. Has anyone actually managed to pay more to have a single tyre fitted to a 75? On the positive side, it's incredible the difference to ride and reduction in road noise a new tyre makes |

Still use the original Conti M3 on mine @ £155.65 a corner (fitted). Just like to keep the car original.

Hmm I'm on 16s and have horrible cheap Chinese tyres (as fitted by the previous owner)...
These ones in fact (Sunny SN3800). Do not fit these tyres as they are NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- IMO. I'm going to get these as I have positive experience of them. They are Toyo T1-Rs and were one of the very few tyres that were suitable for the MGF and worked well on the Rover 200 Helen had, the Rover 25 dad had, both my Rover 416s and Dad's ZS. They wear reasonably quickly but the grip level is equal to the Goodyears I had on the MGF beforehand. |

Tyre prices are extortionate, there is like everything else connected with motoring. It is a shame that you are in surrey, I had 4 Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas fitted at a £110 each from Selectatyre in Stoke, and I have to say that they are fantastic. The ZT corners like it is on rails in the wet and the dry....excellent!

Tyre prices at the moment are changing daily along with fuel prices. Michelin have in fact just announced their third price increase this year they are pricing themselves out of the market. Sadly we are going to have to get used to higher price tyres. A lot of us retailers are trying to hold back the increases, but it is just becoming too much to absorb.
The reasons are: Oil: Massive amounts are used in the actual process of making a tyre. increases in transportation. Steel: Prices for steel have gone through the roof. Power: Massive increases in electricity and gas prices. Rubber: Prices are rocketing since the people in places like China & India are becoming more mobile. Not too mention wage increases.
