Default Parking aid sounding when hooked up to caravan!

Hiya all.

Anybody know why my parking aid bleeps when reversing and caravan is hitched up, yet doesn't when I have a trailer on, and reversing?

It knows there is a trailer attached but not a caravan......

Sounds like your caravan socket is wired differently rather than a problem with reverse sensors!

What make towbar is it & is it fitted with sensor inhibiting circuitry as per the the OEM towbar?

Mine only beeps, with trailer, when the trailer turns towards the car in reverse. Could it be that the caravan is closer to the car than the trailer or has a wider towing bar? (ie an A-frame as opposed to a single bar?)

Thanks Jules

Hmmm, I'll have a look at the make when I get out later.

One problem I have is that I can't locate a user guide for the Elddis Tornado 1990. I have written to Elddis to see if they can help me.

Hi Dragrad

If anything, the trailer is closer to the rear of the car, it's only a small 4'x4' trailer. Now the caravan probably has a wider towing bar.

Can't answer the question, but it can be avoided by fitting a switch into the reversing light/sensors circuit. That's what I did, see other current threads.

Does the oem sensor system give an initial Beep on selecting reverse? ( my aftermarket ones do) If so is the beep only present when you select reverse when you have the caravan attached as opposed to the trailer.

If so, it has to be the way the van is wired.

Hmmm, I can't remember if it gives an initial beep. I'll check next time I'm hooked up. Sadly, not for a few weeks yet.

Mine does. One beep whether hooked up or not.
