Default UPDATED 11/11/2008 Pre 2001 Cars now get caught for extra Road Tax

PLEASE NOTE THE RECENT BUDGET HAS ALTERED MANY PRICES & ADVICE/COMMENTS ON THIS THREAD
CHECK ON DVLA WEBSITE FOR LATEST INFO.

I thought it was to good to be true.

Announced in the House today in response to a question, also leak reported on only Page 17 of todays Daily Mail.

From April 2009 all pre 2001 cars not caught by the Road fund licence re-banding
will be liable to a Double Inflation increase each year plus a Special Additional "Green Levy" Tax
making minimum Tax Disc £200.00 it was announced today where as it should have been £185.00

This increase will affect an additional 5.6 Million Drivers,
on top of the all ready announced increases to 9.4 million motorists paying more.

The government says taking into account the rate of inflation and Freezing of Road Fund Licences in previous years,
no one will be paying more in real terms than in 1997. Yea Right.

The scrapping of Classic Car Tax and implementation of road Fund Use Licences for caravans are also under review with a committee looking into it.

Time to get the car owned by someone in eastern europe and drive it on a PL plate, like a lot in South london, then the following does not seem to apply

speed limits
bus lanes
speed cameras
1 way street
parking
congestion charge

Can't help thinking that offering the "concession" of making the new rates apply only to cars registered (say) post June 2008 will be a good vote winner....so there must be a chance these changes will get reviewed?

BOO!

Wouldn't more CO2 mean bigger, stronger plants and trees anyway?

It's the much older cars that are lighter on co2, if well cared for and up to scratch. These newfangled cats give us co2.
