Geoff, that's a real great offer of yours & thanks. Now that I've viewed the .pdf (with lovely piccies) I'm sure I should be able to get to this now though, but if I get stuck I'll certainly take you up on that (followed by a swift half up at The Ram afterwards on me, no doubt!)

Looking at this though I can only assume the guy who originally designed and placed such an important/costly/vital piece of electrics in such an external area prone to water ingress was given a career change!

So the first thing I'll do is dry it out thoroughly (maybe swishing some isopropanol alcohol to thanks T-Cut), then try it I guess. If it still doesn't work send it off to the Doc. I just hope it hasn't shorted out any other components. I'll keep y'all posted as to my success and hopefully you'll be seeing my X-reg in a town near you soon!

James, if you need a new, uncoded ecu feel free to pm me...and it won't cost £1000! Or even £125!

Regards

Default What's the white box in the housing containg the ECU?

Right, I've stripped out the ECU board & it looks fine actually ( I had to clean up a couple of legs on a chip that's all) & my gut feeling suggests it might just be OK. However I believe I've found the problem. I noticed another box white in colour, in the same black plastic box which houses the ECU. This was full of water and upon opening it I find that it is pretty corroded & I strongly suspect is useless. What is this/what does it do? Where can I get another? I've attached pix of this & hope they are clear.

Because of ECU suspected flooding (Plenum / water problem) I've stripped out the ECU board & it looks fine actually (I had to clean up a couple of legs on a chip that's all) & my gut feeling suggests it might just be OK. Most of that will clean on circuit board and the Dry Joints will need resoldering.

Don't laugh, but I've used a toothbrush and toothpaste to clean PCB's before, and with good results.

Wash in clean running water and pat dry, leave somewhere warm for a few hours to finnish.....
