It is only the autobox that has a limited learning capacity iirc

The autobox learning the style of driving has always struck me as being a slightly odd feature. At least where I am concerned, some days I drive like Juan Manuel Fangio possessed and other days I drive like the Queens chauffeur. It must get very confused, poor thing

I think the IPK and LSM handle most of these - and the ECU handles the nitty gritty of getting the engine to run efficiently etc.... (?)

Yeah I know what you mean and when you suddenly want the fly like the wind it does not expect it and is reluctant to kickdown but on the other hand when you have been driving quick and you want to slow down again the gearbox is up and down because that is what it thinks you want it to do. strange but I can live with it.

Where is this 'learning' information stored ?? Main ECU or a seperate autobox one ??

Does rebooting reset this memory ??

As rebooting seems to be the first thing to try when something odd happens would a main switch in the curcuit be useful?? Another mod perhaps??

Life is so full of questions

I wouldn't get too excited about it's capabilities The auto box ECU memorises the signal values of the gearbox sensors and actuators. These stored values, specific to the driver, ensure optimum gearbox performance is achieved at all times. This information is lost if the battery voltage is too low, for example if the battery becomes discharged. The ECU reverts to default readings on first engine start after a battery discharge or disconnection. The EEPROM facility in the ECU allows the stored values to be re-learnt, ensuring optimum gearbox performance what ever that means
