There is only one timing belt to change on the 1.8 and the 1.8T, so the cost is much less than for the V6's as it is a much less complicated job to do.
A few years back I had the timing belt changed on our then 1.4 K series engine in our 214 Rover for about £90. It will be a bit more than today but it should not be too expensive to do, as it is basically the same design.
Mileage at which the Timing Belt is due for changing is the same for all 1.8's and V6's i.e. 6 years or 90000miles, which ever comes round first. The 2ltr Diesel engine has a steel link Timing Chain, which does not need attention at this mileage.
Ensure that this job is done without fail, as to take a chance on missing out on this job, hoping that the rubber compound belts will last longer, will end in disaster. Do not take that risk. If you have any doubts about the age of your timing belts, play safe and have them changed. It could save you the cost of a new engine.
Regards,
Telfer

Sorry my figures were for the V6,
1.8T should be a lot cheaper.
Apologies to all.

75 2.5 V6 Club Auto

Bought Feb 2007 at 43k, now on 65k, and three European holidays completed, incl 5 Alpine passes last year.

1 x headlight bulb
2 x stoplight bulbs
1 x driver door latch mechanism
1 x windscreen due to crack forming - insurance job
4 x tyres (2 Goodrich - very good, 2 Wanli's - very noisy, otherwise OK)
1 x rear silencer box (not blowing but it looked bad and it was just before trip to Rome last year)
2 x services
1 x oil service only (15k is too long to leave the oil with my 3-mile town journeys to work)

Have now got slight, (but annoying !), whining noise from air con compressor, but it still cools OK

Timing belts to do soon as it's 7 years old

Had my '75' 26 months now, I was a bit put out when I had to change one rear indicator bulb a short while ago. What a put down, I had to spend some money, of all things.

I had one headlamp bulb blow and I replaced it, when the second went I decided to change both head lamp and main beam bulbs to those super power ones, Philips x-treme for the head lamps and Osram 90%+ for main beam, well pleased with whiter, brighter light!
Ready for any door step challenge now!!!

Oh dear......

I couldn't resist this....

Had mine for 2yrs now and the miles on the car is just over 100,000. I've done about 35k myself.

Heres the list:

8 new tyres
all 4 springs (front and rear about 1yr apart)
Replaced fan
both rear bearings (o/s about a yr ago and recently the n/s one)
1 injector
set of injector retaining bolts etc (4mths after the injector was replaced)
new thermostat
called out AA twice after breakdowns
1 n/s front passenger window after break-in
normal break, rear and reg plate lights
2 x services
2x auto box changes

rear discs and pads to do

But still love it... !!!!!!!

Don't you agree though that without BMW's money we would never have had the opportunity to purchase a car as fantastic as the 75 (it's just a shame MGR cut corners as I am sure most owners would have prefered the original component quality at the original prices) also without BMW's money BAe would have probably gone bust due to the financial crisis headed by Sir Roland Smith, so no more UK Air Defence Industry?

Honda were not interested as they had thier own Manufacturing site they didn't need Rover's help any more in increasing European sales they could now build on thier own & still import from Japan & the USA.

I believe BMW's £Billions helped to keep the car production workers in employment for an extra 11 years, or am I missing something?
