All discussions about MPG (any vehicle make) need to state whether Air conditioning is ON or OFF and if system is Climate controlled, what temperature it was set to?

Aircon can reduce any figures by approx 2-5 MPG !!!
After all you are running a large fridge compressor.

Aircon (CC) definately switched onto "Econ" 20 degrees C for my figures.

Will need to do a comparison with it switched on Auto: a) when the weather finally gets warmer. b) after payday

My Figures stated are with Climate Control (CC) permanently on,
I don't think it has ever been turned off, even left on in Winter
and set to Auto and 16 degrees Celsius, (60 Fahrenheit)
sometimes both sides set to Lo.
System Recharged/Lubricayed as required annually.

Ah but John, on ECON she'll go faster too
Compressor uses up to 5 BHP!!
(now lets see how much that's cost you in the last 4 years = ££££££££££££££££££££££££

Aircon's not brilliant for one's lungs I read somewhere.

Funny you should mention this... The 75 is far better than the Mondy Ghia X i had before. The lack of power was very noticable with the air con on. Even the Mondy instructions said to turn off the air con if power was needed. I have never noticed this in the 75.

Default Degraded MPG & MAF replacement

Earlier in this thread, I mentioned that the MPG figure on my year 2000 CDT had suddenly dropped by 10%. I suspected the MAF & just received today a MAF purchased on Ebay & shipped from UK for an extremely £33.70 moderate price. The ad description never said that this was an original Bosch Eqpt but just claimed to fit Rover 75 and referenced a MHK101130 part (correct Rover Ref. #) . On the delivered part body, the reference 0 928 400 520 is marked but of course "Bosch" is not seen anywhere. Furthermore, on original equipment, the probe itself is marked with "Bosch F00C 2G2 029, Made in Germany, 386 04 2A", while nothing is marked on the Ebay eqpt.
I questioned the vendor on the eqpt sourcing. After telling me I could get my money back if I was unhappy, and various Emails, I finally got the answer that this is manufactured in Japan. To me, Poland or China seems more realistic. Why would Japanese would get involved in manufacturing BMW MAF's!
I have not tried the unknown OEM eqpt to check that this will solve my problem. I will give no hassle to the vendor but I would just be curious on having any comments on my experience. FYI, several other Ebay vendors offer the same MAF.

Default Degraded MPG & MAF replacement, Cont'ed

I changed the MAF probe with that of the unknown MAF source purchased on Ebay-UK (lots easier that changing the whole unit).
After 2 fillups I get 48mpg (close to the original figure) while having 44mpg before changing the MAF. Driving conditions and A/C utilization were more or less the same before and after changing the MAF probe.
Conclusion: the 8 year Bosch MAF/230,000Km was out of specifications.
Last questions are:

(i) What service life can be expected from this "grey, green or yellow" eqpt?
I am still looking forward to receiving comments on this story.

(ii) How can I test the MAF probe. FYI, I do have a lot of electronic eqpt at home including scope, generators, etc.
