I just wish they'd STOP trying to jump on the "green" band wagon as an excuse to cover up Brown's fiscal mismanagement

How long before the 'free tax' concession on my two classic cars is scrapped I wonder?

As quoted in my Post TF unfortunately this is currently being looked into by a set up committee as well as a Road Users Tax for Caravans. There is no escaping the Tax due to the continued blunders of this government. |

Don't forget that the people who impose these sort of things don't run cars. Alistair Darling has no driving licence and I don't think Gordon Brown has one either. They live on a different planet to the rest of us.
The only fair way to tax individual car use and hence CO2 is the tax on fuel. Road Tax should be for provision of roads, nothing else !! I have to say, I don't really object to an additional tax on first purchase if the Government want to get some money in, (I'm reliably told they are a bit short right now !), as new cars are mostly bought by companies. Those here on this forum as old as me will remember Purchase Tax which was 25% on cars just before VAT came in, and had been as high as 55% There was a Special Car Tax on new cars of 10% on top of the VAT right into the 90s. Currently taxes on purchasing a new car are at their lowest for 60 years. |

I know fuel is expensive already, but scrap the Road Tax, and stick it on fuel duty, that way EVERYONE PAYS!! No one can get away with not taxing their vehicle then. It would be PAYG.
My car was off the road for about 5 weeks at one point a few years ago, so I lost over a months tax......I it was PAYG I would have lost nothing. Then we could have a new governing body that controls the disgraceful state of our roads. How many of you can name a road that has tarmac older than 12 months old, that hasn't started to crumble or subside in places? Even better who can say they have driven down a stretch of motorway without seeing roadworks? OR, This one really gets up my nose....... I bet everyone of you can name the location of a road sign that has some sort of obstruction in front of it. What the hell are we paying road tax for anyway?? And WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?? Just another reason in my little black book why am ready to quit the UK. |

Enjoy it while you can boys another 20 years and the internal combustion engine will be consigned to the Museum of Science and Industry.
