Rover 75 starts after 3 or 4 times.

Dear Gentlemen,

thanks for accepting me into your club. I bought a very beautiful Rover 75 in silver from 06.2001 CDT. Celeste / Connoisseur. With 225.000 km.

The car is like 18 years old, but looks like new. I am happy.

It occurs to me since yesterday, that when I put the keys on position 2 and turn it up, I can hear the engine cranking, but the car won't start. I see the yellow "traction"-notification/icon (which disappears after a couple of seconds). After the 3rd or 4th try, then engine starts.

I was shocked. I was afraid that I have to call assistance.

Any idea how I can solve this issue? Or is it because it is cold? We have minus degree here in Germany. The Rover is in a garage though. But it happened at work. And later when I ,ade my groceries.

Any idea or impulse is highly appreciated.

Welcome. I'm no diesel expert, but would suspect heater plugs need looking at?

Mine starts comfortably at -10 without glowplugs, none of my diesels have a functioning glowplug relay

This is a one of those faults where it's difficult to speculate without a bit more detail

I would get the battery checked first of all and/or put it on charge , it may be too lower voltage when cranking

Again, many thanks for helping out, gents.

I was walking to my Rover after my shift at work with a little anxiousness. "Will I call service in front of all my coworkers?"

I was reading some post about the same thing, where some gents mentioned about issues with the keys.

So I got the second key this time with me. As went inside, putting it at position 2: It instantly worked. Car was working.

But you guys are right. I remember when I was picking up Rover from the seller. The battery was low and he couldn't start the car, he told me. He then charged it up I remember. Maybe it is indeed the battery?

I might just buy a new one. Although I was checking it the other day, and it looks like new!! From Bosch even.

Will check that out at the weekend.

These cars are sensitive to the battery condition, all weird kinds of stuff can start happening if the battery gets borderline. Try charging the battery for a good 24 hours before going to the expense of a new one.

One thing to be very aware of is not to keep trying to start the car with a dodgy battery, it can corrupt the synchronisation between the immobiliser chip in the key and the car's security system. Read this.

where I can I charge a battery 24 hours?

I am willing to invest money for this gem of a car. I just want it to function. And you are right. I hate dodgy things. I will check that asap.

It really might be the battery

PS: I tried to google it, fine gents. But which battery ampere is needed for a 06.2001 Rover 75 CDT 2.0?

I was googling about recharging a car battery! You can buy such a device on Amazon and charge and check your battery! The price is lower than buying a new one!

I bought one of these from my local Lidl store......

They do pop up from time to time, however there is a seller on eBay UK currently selling them at a slightly higher price.

I am living in Germany, my friend. And hey, these things are very handy. I thought they were BIG POWERHOUSES!!

Will Check on at Amazon. Not sure if our Lidl has that! But maybe, because they do offer things for the car. especially when the winter is coming.
