Planenut! Thanks for reminding me. I had one of the Vanguard models in the garage.
At this point I'm looking at two ZTs, One is in Newfoundland and the other is in Japan. Option three is a LHD car out of Europe but the shipping is a killer.
Thanks for the delivery offer but the Atlantic is a terrible drive.

It's been a year since I joined the forum while hoping to find myself a ZT.
Happily I have finally found one! My friend Jess, who is mainly a Rover guy was looking to slim down his collection of cars and offered me his 2002 ZT190.
He had imported the car from The Netherlands a couple of years ago. It is LHD which is great for our market and is in fantastic shape for a 17 year old car. The interior is literally perfect.
I'm in the process of getting the ZT ready for our Provincial safety test and expect to have it on the road in a couple of weeks. A pair of Byron Rowson's uprated VIS motors went in a couple of days ago and big box of EBC brake parts arrived today.

WOO-HOO!

Thanks! I've owned MGs off and on since the 70's so I qualify for the madhouse. (Just ask my wife!)
This isn't even my first (or second) 4-door MG so I should be officially certified Looney.

Is the Provincial safety test equivalent to our MOT?

Hi, do you see many other imported Rover/MG?. What do the Canadians think of the MG?

Our safety test isn't nearly as rigorous as your MOT. It is carried out by licensed garages and is mainly a visual inspection following a checklist. We no longer have an annual safety or emissions test here so this may be the only check-over an imported car ever gets. For cars imported by non-enthusiasts it is a very good thing. They mainly check for things like working lighting with an emphasis on DRLs which are compulsary here, and safety items like tyres, hydraulic lines seat belts etc. There seems to be a variation in thoroughness depending on the shop that does the test. The shop I use is quite realistic, they do a good job but aren't too anal.

The last MG officially imported into Canada was the MGB in 1980 so there aren't a lot around and most people under 50 have no knowledge of them. Our import laws only allow them to be imported after they are 15 years old, and the USA is 25 years. There are gradually more MGFs and TFs being imported. I have brought in two myself, but they are still very rare. The other models are rarer still. My ZT is the only one for 1000 miles. There are a few more in eastern Canada, probably not many more than 50 cars in total, MGF, TF, ZT and the odd Metro and Maestro. LHD cars are the sought after ones as they are easier to deal with in our LHD country. RHD caqrs are quite hard to resell.
