The Capri L
I've been looking for an early 70's MK3 Capri ever since I got hold of the laser, and low and behold I was lucky enough to find this one.
She is a 1979 Ford Capri 1.6L in cosmos blue with the original LW/MW radio, she will be 42 years young in just a few days time, blooming amazing really, she even comes with that 70's car smell. Tax and MOT exempt and just £60 classic car insurance. WooHoo! I just cant believe I'm driving a Capri on the road legally for the grand sum of just £60. She takes me right back to my youth... They make a right pair, reminds me of that Milky way chocolate bar advert... The red car and the blue car has a race. Last edited by Dallas; 6th March 2021 at 13:14.. |

My mate's first car was a Capri, what a heap it was! You'd be doing well to get a magnet to attach anywhere on the bodywork. I was getting out of it one day, a bolt sheared on the seat and I ended up flat on my back looking at the (rather manky) headliner.

Oh the memories... I had many a girl flat on her back looking at the headliner in my Capri back in the day, including Mrs Dallas...

Nice one Wes, I am a massive Capri fan owning two in the eighties, my first was DSF892W a 1.6GL in Tuscan beige, being a GL it had tinted glass, full length centre console with clock, carpeted lower door trim, but the wheels were a plainer style than the earlier rostyle with the chrome embellishers.
My second Capri was B855KSX a Laquer Red 2.0 laser with the optional fog lights below the bumper, it was the car I wished I had kept.

I loved my Capri back in the 80's. A MK2 3.0 litre Ghia in Oyster Gold with a brown vinyl roof , Gold upholstery and fake wood dash. I was the kiddy.
Sadly the engine failed a few months into ownership so I bought a reconditioned engine, then a few months later the gearbox lost top gear ( auto) so I bought a scrap manual car for £50 and converted it to manual on a Saturday, it was so easy even the hole for the clutch cable was already there. I then sold the rest of the scrap car and made a profit. Sadly 18 months later it caught fire outside my house one Saturday, had no idea why but I looked out and there was smoke coming from under the bonnet and luckily my neighbour was a fireman so he saved a total blaze. What amazes me about these old 70's and 80's cars is the price they now fetch, you couldn't give them away at one point, but now stick three zeros after a number 6 or above, and bobs your uncle.
I sold my old Capri's back in the 90's for £100 to £300. Last edited by Dallas; 6th March 2021 at 12:40.. |
