Ford Mustang Mach-e!
Ford have revealed their new Mustang ahead of schedule, I wonder what the purists will make of the new Ford Mustang BEV!
The top spec model is no slouch with a mid 3 sec 0-60mph https://insideevs.com/news/382397/fo...ustang-mach-e/

Maybe I'm missing something here but if I was in the market for a Mustang I'd want it to be immediately recognisable as a Mustang, and not look like some sort of generic SUV or Chelsea tractor.

Ooo! From what I've read Fords other Mustang models from 2020 will be PHEV's with a 2.3 turbo four cylinder engine with a electric hybrid motor coupled to a 10 speed automatic gearbox

If I was buying a Mustang I want it to look sexy and sound like a muscle car. Saying that I know somebody who has one of the new ones with the 2.3 Turbo engine and it is impressive in the way it performs but does not have the V8 sound.
Personally I think just putting the name on a car is a big mistake and I suspect they will loose sales to other options. Even Ford were surprised at the uptake of the V8 Mustangs in the UK when they introduced the RHD to the UK market, they thought they would only be selling a few hundred a year and as it turns out they are selling almost 1 V8 for every two 2.3's. Chevrolet are even considering selling the Camaro in RHD. Going back to when you could buy a Capri how many ordered the 1.3? When you are spending that kind of money on a 2 door car the chances are you are not looking at the fuel consumption or how green it is. You only have to see the mileage that most have covered when they come up for sale to realise most are fair weather toys. Time will tell. I wonder if they will keep making the current model? At least it will give customers the option. |

Its all up in the air since Ford signed the CARB emissions deal with California. They need to get their fleet emissions down and PHEV,BEV is the only way of doing it. FCA are doing the same thing with their Dodge brand, V6 turbo engines for the Challenger. CEO Mike Manly (who didn't sign the CARB deal) has said the Dodge Challenger is getting long in the tooth and stated "I think that electrification will certainly be part of the formula that says what is American muscle in the future," Manley said. "What it isn't going to be is a V-8 supercharged 700-horsepower engine." Boy are those guys upset across the pond.

Just not a Mustang in any sense.
I had a Mach1 many years ago and it was a magnet This one isn't even on the same continent as a Mustang. |

Go back a few more years, a zt, zs and zt, were proclaimed.not to be mgs.... DNA states that they are, but let's face it, the only ones worthy (to my generation) would be the f and tf. But look back further ignoring badge engineered family cars, was the original tf from the 40s not a family car? The name unfortunately sells it, the market determines how it is powered and looks. This is as bad as electrifying NASCAR.
It completely defeats the object! The whole point of both is the V8 noise! |
