Snow/ice driving and which tyres?
My cdti is has no very little grip in snow/ice but some others members seem to have no problems.
What tyres does everyone else have and who is having problems in the snow/ice? It could be interesting to find out which tyres are best in snow/ice conditions and low temperatures(below 7 degrees centigrade) I have vredestein sportrac3 215/55/16 and they are terrible(temp not been above 3 degrees for the week), but great in the rain. My Kumho KU31's were great summer/rain tyres but terrible on snow and ice - forced me to get winter tyres instead.
I think this problem is mainly on the tourers as they tend to breakaway more than the saloons. |

Hi
I have the Continental Winter Contact TS830 and find them to be excellent in the current conditions. Johnmac |

I had Michelin Premacy HP 215/55 r16w all round on my cdti connie tourer, which were still great tyres with only 2/3mm of tread left, even with standing water. However, they were absolutely useless with the snow. I tried to get winter tyres, but no stock left in my area. So, I went with Prestivo Sport on the front, which are on my wife's 307 hdi. She has had no problems with them in the snow, so I thought they were worth a punt. They are a good mid range tyre on the 307, IMO, without being too expensive. I hope they can do the same for my 75.

My saloon on Michellin Energy 195/65/15's would not get up my drive in this weeks light snowfall. I had to put the snow socks on. Was going to get Michellin Alpin A4's today. Ordered on line with Kwik Fit a few days ago, and booked a 9am slot to fit them but when I turned up they told me that no Michellins left, and the van delivery was late due to snow. They supplied the continental winter contact 830's instead and refunded the difference. You get great savings by booking on-line with them. £64 each on line but something like £79 to buy in the fitting shop. Despite the mix up the manager in the depot couldn't have been more helpful and soon sorted out the mess and got me my refund sorted. The winter tyres are fantastic. Within minutes of them being on the car the snow dissappeared. |

Just bought some Uniroyal Rainexperts (215/55 WR 16 Extra load) and found them to be very good in the recent bad weather. The Vredestein Sprotrac 3's they replaced were also good in the snow but with 3mm tread left weren't up to the job this time. Both worked out around £85-90 a corner,so not exactly budgets but not Michelin/Conti money either..
