An OEM part is an item that met the car manufacturer's specification and would no doubt have been extensively tested by the car manufacturer as part of it's car/engine testing programme.

If you buy say a Lemforder part for a Vuaxhall or a BMW, sold under the Vx or BMW name, you can be confident that the quality of the part will reflect VX or BMW specifications.

The next best level of confidence will be achieved with a part without the car manufacturer's name but with the OEM's name e.g. Lemforder suspension arms for Vx/BMW or Knetch oil filter for the Rover diesel. The Rover OEM oil filters for the CDT were manufactured by Knetch.

If you buy an oil or air filter from say Knetch or Mann & Hummel it is likely to be of high quality.

The above are very different from generic filters or other parts produced by Chinese or other manufcturers which are then sold under various different names e.g. items sold as Borg & Beck, QH, Lucas etc. and of course now many X-part items for our cars e.g. alternators. In this scenario, you get what you get and often what you get is not very good.

I still trust Luk, Lemforder, TRW, Delphi etc. as they are manufacturers with a heritage in engineering and brand worth protecting through quality products.

All sounds quite reasonable and logical,

But my first replacement " Genuine MGR" in 2014 from ahem!!! "R's " ,I think , trumps all that as it lasted just under 15k .
