clutch damper? help needed...
Hi guys
I've lost my clutch, pedal hit the deck and flopping around. My dad's had a look at it and we've found a fluid leak from the clutch damper. Now is this a standard on any model as the guy I bought it from said he fitted it. Anyone know where I can get one or know of a compression joint I can use to join the pipes together and do away with it? Any help is gratefully received. Cheers James |

The general consensus is that they did nothing much, and caused more problems than they fix. Get it in the bin.

The damper was released as a 'fix' for clutch judder, as MG Rover didn't fit springed clutches to the CDTi models (and maybe others) in the belief the DMF would be able to replace the springs in the friction plate. That wasn't always the case, and hence the damper was released as a 'fix' to combat the problem.

I use long-nose pliers in the open position to push both sides of the plastic collar down, that does the trick.

It has Part Number STD000010 and was invented to resolve clutch problems in the old Rover 800. It didn't and they've been trying to sell the gizmo ever since. There was a Technical Bulletin about fitting it to ZT diesels but it's not effective. The Xpart price was/is around £100. You can get 'em considerably cheaper now - wonder why?
