Default Sat Nav screan not working properly and compter not shutting down

I replaced the mark 3 sat nav computer in the boot for an original brand new one, as the old one wasn't good anymore.

This new one worked OK, but it drained the battery, although the red light closed down. But now it doesn't shut down anymore, the red light stays on. The blue screen doesn't display any information anymore about how to drive, although the navigation seems to work: the distance to the location I'm driving is shown and changes correctly the closer I get and the MAP-display is working. The voice however doesn't work anymore.
What could be the cause of all this?

This usually results from the battery being disconnected before waiting for the sat. nav. computer to shut down. Could that have happened Paul?

Yeah, maybe. When I installed the new computer, it drained the battery completely, but the satnav still worked. This afternoon the red light first went out, but the screen didn't do much, and later on the red light didn't stop. Ik had to take out the fuse, because otherwise the battery would die again.
