Default Tyres wearing badly on inside edge

The front tyres on my MG ZT (diesel) keep wearing really badly.. so there is still over 3mm on the rest of the tyre while a couple of inches of the inside are totally worn down. Last time i had the tyres replaced (october) I had the alignment done but now a few months later (6k miles) the tyres are almost worn out again.

Could it be due to the alignment not having been done properly? Or is this normal for these cars? Or could be something mechanical that's worn and can't be corrected by the normal alignment procedure?

Any pointers would be very welcome as this is costing me a lot in tyres!

many thanks
Richard

Suggest you have electronic 4 wheel alignment done. Shop around first as it can be quite expensive. Some places will check it free of charge but of course if they find a problem you will end up paying to do it on the spot. Cured my nearside rear tyre of uneven wear.

Ironically enough, budget tyres from a reputable supplier tend to last longer but they are usually noisier. Unless you drive hard in the wet I doubt you will feel much difference in roadholding.

I appreciate that some members will express a contrary view!

Have you checked the suspension and steering bushes/ links for wear/ play? This can cause uneven tyre wear.

Your alignment check should have included checking the suspension itself.

The wear you are experiencing suggest this was not done.

Even cheap tyres are not likely to wear as yours are doing now if the suspension is not worn.

Only a thorough check and any faults corrected will give you the long life you should get from new tyres.

PS. don't go back to the last place.---

And don't have the alignment done with worn tyres as that will skew the results, and just wear out new ones.

Do you drive over (straddle) lots of speed bumps on your usual routes?

Thanks for the replies.. I don't drive over an excessive amount of speed bumps but they do seem to be proliferating everywhere!

I had the springs and dampers renewed last year, also the top suspension mounts, lower arms and some bushes.

When i had it aligned it was with new tyres.

I'll take it somewhere else to get 4 wheel alignment done as it may well end up saving money in the long run..

I had this on my continental efficient grip tyres a few months ago, they were even splitting on the inner edge. Changed them to TOYOs and for the moment all seems to be well !!!

From what you say those splitting tyres sound very old !!!

What was the manufactured date on the sides.
