battery booster pack recommendations?
Looking to buy a car battery booster pack powerful enough to jump start a car with a dead battery. As a couple of our cars aren't used often at the moment I keep having to jump start them, so would be useful to have one of these.
Any recommendations? Thanks |

I've got a Suaoki starter pack which has fired up my ZT-T (V6 160)on 2 occasions Rick. I got one like this but orange. It also fired up a completely dead T4 VW and has been a useful backup power source for my laptop, torch and a top up pump for the tyres!
Need to check instructions as I had to download an updated set of instructions regarding jump starting. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Suaoki-Star...dp/B017IJ9IYE/ Jonty |

Bought one of these for around £90 on ebay and its superb. No waiting hours to charge it as it says. Used it numerous times and never failed me.

Just bought both of these after researching specs and reviews etc.
Got left with a flat battery last week despite having a new Yuasa fitted only three months ago after my car usage has declined to pretty minimal mileage over the last couple of months. Mainly popping down the shops or bank a mile away and back. With all the heaters, heated seats, FBH, lights, radio etc going fill blast in the cold weather the battery took a hammering with all the minimal distance runs round town I suppose, never recharging what was taken out of it on starting etc and dipped to 11.7V leaving me calling out the breakdown people one morning last week. I went straight out and ordered the items below. The battery charger is great having used it already to restore my battery to full power and I intend to use it once a fortnight or so to top up whilst my mileage remains minimal during the winter. Really simple to use, well made with clear illuminated digital display of progressing charging AH and voltages etc with a number of safety protection features. I haven't used the jump starter pack yet ( and would be delighted if I never have to on my owm car although of course I'm dying to start someones car with it to see it in operation) but it's now residing in my boot after a brief inspection following delivery. Looks a nice piece of kit, there are youtube videos showing it in use. I might have gone a touch full bore but I though for just under £100 I might as well be confident of not being left stranded waiting for breakdown in the future when such a scenario might be a disaster if missing an important appointment, meeting or function. https://www.amazon.co.uk/SUAOKI-2000...0+jump+starter https://www.amazon.co.uk/SUAOKI-Main...and+maintainer |

I have one of these compact style booster packs, I find it very useful when I travel as it is chargeable from almost any socket and voltage and it can be used to charge other devices.
Last year I used it in Canada for a week to keep my mobile topped up and when I returned to the UK luckily my car started on its own battery but the car behind me was not so lucky, I offered my boost pack and he looked doubtful if it would work on his E class Merc, I connected it up and waited 30 seconds for it to do its job and the Merc started as if it had a fully charged battery. He was so impressed he took a picture of it saying he was going to buy one. He even offered me £20 as a thankyou but I declined. |

Thanks all for the replies, quite a few options there at various price ranges. Will have to look into which one to choose. Thank you

Boosters are a great thing for those emergency starts, when you have accidentally flattened your battery. But it is not a good idea to simply allow a little-used car's battery to go flat, knowing you can start it when you need it with your booster. That way lies the rapid demise of your battery. Better to either disconnect the battery, having ensured it is fully charged first, or connect it to a smart charger, which will put in a maintenance charge at exactly the right level. Starter batteries are not deep cycle batteries, and sulphate up if left discharged for long periods. Better to invest in one of the new technology Bosch or Valtra leisure batteries, - deep cycle AND plenty of cranking amps.
