Default Emissions Manual verses Auto

John the figures on mine and my Fathers Reg docs are:

CDTi MANUAL = 163 grams per Km.

CDTi AUTO = 190 grams per Km, hence the extra Road fund tax

And it just goes to show how inefficient the JATCO japaneese auto box really is. I'm not knocking the Auto's as Isobel my better half loves her CDTi Auto. They have a really silky smooth change, but we get at least 10mpg more out of the manual CDTi.

Its not just the Jatco Box I think its Diesel Autos in general - the Auto Box seems to have a greater effect on the MPG than on a petrol car.

My Ex had a Laguna 2.2dci Auto until recently. Renaults own overall MPG figs showed an 8 MPG difference between the manual and auto versions of that car. From memory auto was about 37/38 and manual 45/46.

And I think the Renault was designed to slip itself into neutral when the car was stopped with the brake on with drive selected which must have saved a little fuel.

Think the basic problem with the Road Tax is that we are trying to use the words ' fair' and 'logical' and 'tax' all in the same sentence which of course is impossible:lol:

2002 2.5 V6 £205 a year to Tax, from what I found out before I got the car if the car was bought new now with the KV6 2.5 engine the tax (due to band 'F' limit being lowered)is now the dreaded Band 'G' and a rediculous price.

Just imagine if they try to enforce it for earlier vehicles, I for one would have to sell.

Honestly they just don't recognise the important contribution us KV6 owners make to society today - I'm outraged and horrified.

Just off now for a gentle blast down the bypass
Thats something to look forward to in June along with the MOT
