So does the CD changer in the glovebox, but I have absolutely no idea how that confounded Harman Kardon contraption in the boot is supposed to function, that's if it does.

The cars books are somewhat different from the later models. The handbook and service portfolios are separate documents, and are in portrait format. Unfortunately someone has stuck a bit of paper over part of the service book cover. Pity. Unfortunately there was no nice handbook wallet either., though also included was a Rover 25 owners manual in one of them horrible, cheap and tacky semi transparent plastic pouches.

Hi Paul.
You have not said if the Traffic auto store book was present or not? if not maybe try and contact the owner to see if he as it

Arctic. Yes it is. Its the book with the code hand written plus how to enter it, on the inside front cover,.

I will try to source one of the PPD leather/leather effect wallets from E-Bay. My other 75, produced in mid August 2002, has a nice PPD wallet with the 75 inscription on the inner pocket.

Thanks for the tip, I checked it out and there was one loose spade connector, but I still don't know if the subwoofer makes any difference. The fact that the ICE works since I inputted the code is what really matters to me.

From the service book, it appears that the car was first registered to Reg Vardy PLC, the Darlington based main dealer, on 27th July 1999, then to its first customer owner on 28th August 1999. I presume this was because, as 1st August was the T to V prefix changeover date, that Vardy's registered it in their name before that date in order to meet a sales target, or perhaps to be used as a demonstrator. The first year warranty period expired on 26th July 2000.

Registering cars by the dealers is a way of boosting sales figures. My first 75 was a 2000, W registration, Dorchester red 2-litre V6 Club saloon bought 'new' from Souls of Olney. I went there to have a look at the 75 and they offered me a test drive in the car which had only just been registered. They said their policy, and perhaps of other dealers too, was to always add one extra to demonstrators - in this case a Harmon Kardon sound system - not much use to me as I never use a car sound system. It also had a grey interior rather than the beige that usually went with that colour.
As a result of the test run, I said I wanted to buy a 75 and liked the colour of the demo and they took it off demo straight away so I bought that one. I believe I was the only customer to drive it.

In those days, if you were prepared to accept that the car was in fact second hand, even though to all intents and purposes it was new, then substantial savings could be had, a small price to pay for it having one previous owner.

Try this one for size - new and all!

Thanks. I am hoping to source a PPD example with 75 embossed on the pouch, but will bear in mind your suggestion. They are showing more than 10 available.

Update - Just ordered two.

I bought one of these a few months ago. They are absolutely brand new (at least mine was) with a corrugated cardboard spacer inside, to stop it going flat, before the wallet gets it's books.

I understand that they were the original suppliers to Rover.

Regards

Mike
