Thanks Hristo. I'll go in for a look.

Oh yeah, I got the fingerprint reader to work. Super convenient!

Cheers,
Glenn

Another option would be to install an 'ad detector'. Never used one personally, but had a quick look on Play Store and there are quite a few to choose from that seem to have plenty of legit reviews. They sound quite technical, but that may be just me. By the look of it, you start it, and it scans your apps, checking for the bits of info that could be the adware. Then tells you which apps are most likely to be causing the ads.

Thank you for that. I will keep that in my back pocket for if all else fails.

Cheers,
Glenn

Well I bought one and am very impressed with it. Only problem is it won't change region to UK - every time I try it will revert to China after rebooting.

Have had a look on the forums without any success so may try a hard reset and start from scratch again to see if that does it.

Cheers Ronnie. When I first turned it on I didn't complete the set up procedure, so it may have defaulted to China region.

That's why I'm thinking a hard reset and start again with choosing a region. Strange that you can set it to UK region in the menu, but every time it reboots it defaults.

Looks like you have a combination of 2 apps, both trying to out advert each other.
I would delete the Always On app and give it another try, Can't see the Bing or Google Translate apps being guilty
Just had a thought, (its a while since I had intrusive ads, so this may not do anything) when an ad is on screen, look for a little logo in the corner of the screen, it may be a triangle shaped logo, click on it, and there may be an option to 'disable'. I can remember this working at one point, but that was a few updates ago, so may not still work.
Hi all,

Sorry I haven't followed up in a while. I did delete the Translator app (not Google or Bong, but a 3rd party one) and the Always On app. That solved the ad bombardments. I have re-installed the Always On app, but gave it no permissions other than the few it must have in order to work. So far, so good. I will revisit the translator apps again soon. There may be a better option than the previous one I had. I have learned now to not allow any extra permissions for anything.

Oh yes, when I set up my phone in the beginning, I did select China as the region on advice from Hristo. It is working great and I have not seen China referenced on the phone. There have been no issues with languages, time or time zones or anything like that.

Cheers,
Glenn

That's interesting Glenn. I haven't noticed anything either with China as the region, apart from my Jabra Storm hands free talking in chinese to me when I turn it on.

Hmmm, can't help with that. Does it talk English when paired with a different phone? Can you get into its preferences to select English as default or something? This tech stuff is too new for me. I use my old GPS for hands free or a 10 year old Motorola speaker clipped to the sunvisor.

Cheers,
Glenn

Good question - fired up the old Nokia Lumia and paired it with the Jabra and it is still talking in a foreign tongue.

So looks like it is the Jabra to blame. Just checked the user manual and the language cannot be changed.
