I always clean them up like you and spray a coat of silver galvanising spray on them. They look great and keep the rust at bay.

I've never owned a brand new Rover so wouldn't know what the original colour was. All my cars have had rust or some sort of caliper paint on them

Never thought of that mate cheers

For these calipers I am on the look for a steel/dark grey

Im refurbing the calipers from the car I broke last Summer and at some point I will sell the Calipers fitted to mine (or maybe refurb them and fit them to the wifes car)

Anyway the front 190 calipers as removed. You will notice a previous owner of the scrapped car had stuck Brembo stickers on the calipers
Next up to decide whether I go for powder coating or painting
I want to go for a dark metal grey as the finished colour. None of this bright yellow or red and definitely no Brembo stickers[/QUOTE]

Jon

I got a slightly darker blue for my Trophy Blue car, and had them powder coated, and must admit that I like them very much

and the rear callipers

But whatever you decide will look good, as you are doing a fantastic job on the car

Stu

Here's some Vindaloo had done in gold

Here's what the plating looks like straight from factory.

Then there's Zinc Nickel plating

Then there is this sort of thing

Jon, I think mine is on borrowed time by the looks of things I have an uneven rattle what seems to be coming from behind the rear cambelt case when starting from cold.

Are you able to replace cambelts, I would obviously pay you for your services.

made some in roads with the calipers and they are now ready to fit to the car.

Firstly I decided to paint the calipers rather than powdercoat.

So all the calipers were painted in a gunmetal grey and the kits arrived from Big red which included the seals, Pistons etc and I also bought some stainless steel bleed nipples and brake lines from HEL.

Everything ready to put togther

Cleanliness is sooo important when building the calipers up as hydraulic circuits fail quickly with dirt

Next up the piston seal is fitted

I then cleaned and degreased the new piston ready for fitting.

I then cover the piston with clean brake fluid and push in piston pass the seal. This does not need forcing and goes in easily with hands only

Next up the dust cover is fitted. For the front brakes I used a smear of silicon grease on the bottom lip and used an old lolly stick to push the cover over the metal ridge on the caliper. On the rear brakes this was a little more fiddly and I found that fitting the cover over the bottom of the piston then locating the cover into the recess before sliding the piston in was the easiest option.

Dust cover fitted.

Then the slider rubbers were fitted again using a little silicon grease to slide the rubber through the holes

The carrier was then fitted with the sliders, The bleed nipple fitted and all the covers fitted to give the completed item

I also bought some new mounting bolts for the 4 x calipers.

All four calipers built up with the new brake lines ready to fit to the car

I am fairly happy with the finish and now have calipers that should last years to come. All the overhaul kits came from Big Red and the stainless fittings from HEL

Cheers John

Good work with the towbar. My wifes contemporary has one of those tow bars and although I have never used it and it has sat in the boot I wouldeave it on the car.

When working on my cars I will always change the fastenings for new if needed

Good work as always Jon, you really are going to have to take this car back to Newton Abbot one day, to show the previous owner !

I fitted a full set of HEL lines to the Discovery before it went on the road, excellent quality & no signs of any problems after 70k. However, these weren't standard fit on the ZT190 - have to say I'm a little disappointed that you've deviated from factory spec...
