Question 1.8 Conn *quite urgent*
Hi
I've seen a 1.8 2006 Connoisseur up for sale quite close to where I live and fancy going to see it this morning. Couple of quick questions for anyone who happens to be about. It's got 55,000 miles on it...... what's it worth? It's got sandstane beige leather interior. Do I really want to get a 1.8? I have a 2001 cdt at the moment. What about HGF and the like, are the problems everyone speaks of inevitable and as costly as feared..... or are they just the unlucky ones? All input greatly appreciated. I'm going away for the weekend and fancied viewing before I go in about and hour and a half. Thanks in advance Bluey |

Hi Bluey
For one, why go away from the diesel, unless you are simply not doing a big mileage these days and can't justify it? If you look at the bottom of any of Greeners posts you will see a link to Glass's guide in his signature. That should give you a guide at least. In terms of the 1.8 there will be differing views, dependant on experience. If you are a drive and forget type of guy then a 1.8 may not be the best car for you. If however you are prepared to do regular checks to ensure coolant levels are okay then it shoudl be fine. In any case, and I may be wrong, I think a 2006 car will have the uprated HG installed so may be safer anyway. Derek

Check for Mayo if it doesn't have any they it does not have an HGF if it does get it discounted accordingly. A 1.8 will be cheaper than a diesel. Would I buy one? Yes as long as the overall condition was that of a well maintained car and there was nasty under the bonnet (Mayo).

Hi Bluey
Is it this one? http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...leRegLetter=06 It looks pretty tidy and sounds cheap. As it is a private sale, do all the usual checks with comparing V5 and Chassis number, check the radiator cap for mayo, check service history etc. Could be a good one. Let us know how you get on? Derek

Aye that's it. On me way now. A garage in Paisley has called and offered him cash for it. Report back later Bluey |

I do not believe any of the MG Rover 1.8's had the uprated HG fitted as standard. They were not available until after Rovers demise.

Just back. Unfortunately not the car for me. Quite a few longish scratches to the bodywork. A big scuff and an area of missing paint on the front bumper. No history to speak of. The car was a company vehicle and the brakes and HG were done recently, as far as the guy knows.
Also, the bonnet catch isn;t working so the inspection was a bit of a non starter. Ho hum. Onwards and upwards Bluey |

Thanks for correcting me, I have picked it up wrongly from other threads. I knew there was an uprated HG, I just thought it had been made standard towards the end of Rover, must have been the Freelander I was thinking of? Sorry Bluey for my wrong info. Derek
