Default Door seal change

Does anyone know how to change the inner door seal (the one on the car car, not the one on the door) without taking the dashboard off?

The two ends of the seal meet halfway up the edge of the dashboad trim to form a joint and there doesn't seem to be enough room to clip the new seal to the car body without moving the dashboard out of the way temporarily.

Managed to slide the seal in on mine from above and below after a bit of fairy liquid was applied.

On mine the original seal join was lower down than the dashboard, I never gave it a thought, just put the new one on the same, but it was a new, new one, so it hadn't set in a particular shape................

I sprayed mine with silicone grease and it just slips in very easily.

Thanks chaps. I'll give washing up liquid a try.

The new seal seems a few inches longer than the old one - did you cut yours to fit or were they correct to start with?

Mine was correct size, i think the seal will take up some of the 'slack' when you put it on.

Had to cut about 1" off mine, and I used a round mallet to tap the seal as snugly as I could into the corners.

Did you use a hacksaw? It looks too tough to cut with a Stanley knife.

The new one off the car is about 4 inches longer than the old one on the car and it's probably difficult to cut when it's in position - especially if the joint is next to the dash. On the other hand I don't want to cut too much off.

Don't cut it !!!!

I replaced mine about two months ago, it too looked to be too long, but once the seal is firmly pushed up against the entire door rim, it all fits into place, and the slack is taken up.

These are specifically made parts that are the correct size for the job, so although you think there's too much, it actually does all fit.

For me, I removed the round plastic blanking plate at the end of the dash, to reveal a bolt which I undid and removed. Then I undid the retaining screw in the panel located in the drivers footwell (underneath the steering wheel), and also removed the trim that houses the boot & bonnet release by just unclipping it, finally I was then able to release enough space to partially pull out the dash to get the new rubber strip in.

push fit with fairy liquid as already suggested this is all I have ever done, but you may regret cutting for that tight snug fit, never a good as it is sure to take the correct shape when tapped into place, and then you may end up with a gap. All you need to do is work it as you come across and covers or panels

all said already really, just adding my tupence worth
