Default Tapping Noise

Hello can you help thanks to a white van man my 2litre rover has been writen off I have been payd by my insurance company and am looking at a 2003 2 litre now the person thats selling it says there is a tapping noise comming from the engine when it is warmed up nothing to be heard when the engine is cold but when you rev the engine up the tapping sound dissapears when warm there is only 38000 on the clock Now I am no mechanic should I leave this well alone regards Willie.

It's probaly either hydraulic tappets due to the wrong grade of oil or the purge control valve.

An oil change should sort the former, the latter is normal.

With it clearing up when warm it sounds like the tappets.
