BMW MkIV sat nav clock won't set
Hi,
I've recently had my ZT-T 190 sat nav upgraded to BMW MkIV widescreen with BM54 tuner, Hybrid digital tv and Dice usb ipod interface. The only feature I cannot setup/get to function is the clock for the sat nav system. In the 'settings menu' I can set the time however it never saves on exiting the menu. Without the clock being set when I program a sat nav route it does not show the estimated time of arrival which is a handy feature if you ever get held up or diverted. MkIV system owners can you set your clock? and can anyone point me in the right direction to get this functioning? Russ |

Hi Rus,
mine doesn't do it either. I think the BMW's clock is digital & part of the ICE system whereas the 75/ZT's is analogue & independent. Unfortunately this means that the timer & stopwatch functions won't work either. Basically there is nothing wrong with your system. It does make you wonder though whether getting a BMW clock unit & linking it in (but keeping it out of sight - i.e. display via computer only) would be possible. Regards, Kearton |

Unfortunately what you have found is correct.
The Rover/MG cars cannot use the clock and some other functions on our BUS system I'm afraid. No fault though. |

BMW clock
The issue of the missing BMW clock has been discussed before.
I think Keith put in an effort to have one made up. I built my own with the help of Jochen Siegenthaler, known as KiwiJochen on Bimmerboard. He is also the author of NavCoder, an indispensable tool in the process. Here's a picture. This is a picture of the circuit. It has a realtime clock with battery backup. The time can be set from the boardmonitor. The time is synchronized to GPS from my MK4 navcomputer. Hans |

That would make a Handy "How To" for Club Members with MK4's.

I'd seen the BMW's with the date and time on... would be really nice to add - it makes the display look so much better... so i'd be interested too.

Thank you for your replies and feedback. Hopefully Hans or Kiwi can help with a circuit diagram of the real time clock. Having owned an R50 Mini with MkIV sat nav it's a nice feature when using sat nav to have estimated time of arrival. Look forward to hearing more on this topic. Russ |
