Yep those rovers were terrific, no power steering, but the balance gave you the impression it had. I had two of those a 2000 and a 2200, lovely to drive, and I loved the little light tip you could see when driving

That was taken at a Patrol Headquarters Re-union, I left the RN in 1974 OMG that is absolutely light years ago Collit, you may be right with your observations.

Never driven one. Never even been in one. But always thought how beautiful thay are. I would love one sitting in a garage to use on a sunny day.

That SD1 brings back a few memories. I grew up in North West London, and the Met's north western traffic garage was about 10 minutes walk from my house. The area and traffic cars in the late 70s/ early 80s were all SD1s, and the traffic garage was where they were stored and maintained. Who knows, that may have been one of them.

I had 2 ex-police SD1's one undercover traffic one and another was used by detectives on judge/royal/VIP protection duty. the traffic car still had its two tones fitted
but.. all the relays and wiring had been removed the protection car had those run flat tyres and when in use it had a boot so full of electronics and stuff that they uprated the suspension to cope with it, so on removal for sale it looked like a hot rod The doors and floor also had extra armour plate fitted and i only kept it for a few months before selling it to a collector.
