Default More bodgery, this time the Starter motor

During the Boxtel trip it came to light ( literally) that there was something very wrong with the starter motor on my car, every time it was cranked a shower of sparks eminated from it.
Trikey was hoping for a new welder

It was always extremely sluggish and listening to other people's dervs on start up it was very apparent that it was far from ok.
I ordered a replacement motor from Mickyboy.

So off I went to remove the starter, it didnt go well, I went to undo the nut and the stud sheared.
I got the motor out and and when the replacement arrived in a very damaged box I did wonder if it would work, hermes conveniently left it on the doorstep.
It didnt work

I hasten to add Mick has very kindly sent another one to replace this one and I am extremely grateful to him for this.

It was removed and a repair kit I had bought was used to repair the original motor.
Stripping it then confirmed that the bodger had been here too in the past, one of the contacts was bent and the nut fixing it to the body had not been done up tight.

The cable from the alternator had welded itself to the nut, it too had never been tightened up, in fact there was about a 2/3mm gap left vacant
Anyway it was all replaced and the motor reinstalled, a turn of the key and one very healthy sounding stater motor burst the engine into life.

It has been very apparent that this car has been owned by one or more professional bodge artist's in the past, much of my time has been spent fixing stuff that has not been done correctly, parts have been replaced as they could not be fixed and even putting things where they should be fitted.

I have been led to believe that a previous owner had said that it was a much loved car, on hearing that I nearly chocked on my coffee and the garage wall still bears the scar

Morning David. Glad you have at last? Sorted that starter out. It is a shame because it is a lovely looking car. It was unfortunate that it was treated like it was. As it now has a loving, caring owner, I hope everything will go in the right direction for yourself and the car. Fingers crossed, and legs. Not the eyes...........yet. .

We all were going to costco this morning but my wife has had a menieres attack , so at the mo she is grounded, so no shopping. Hoping to start on the silver one soon, so get it done and on the road for next year. It’s an auto so good for my ankle.

I had Menieres a few years ago. I had scarring in my ears, from infections caused by working with wood dust. Once I got away from the dust, the symptoms went. I still have allergies to any sort of dust, smoke or other airborne irritants, so need to keep away from building works and wood barbecues etc! Hope she improves as it is nasty, not to be able to be "normal".

I agree with you. Came out of the blue as these happening do. First time was in the middle of Birmingham. Took about an hour to get back to the car perhaps,
a quarter of a mile away. Glad I don’t suffer from it. Bad enough being legless from imbibing a few to many of the Scottish liquid.

Just read about it Dave, seems like a terrible thing to suffer with, I hope she has a quick recovery.

Good luck with your silver car,I'm hoping to start on my 21000 mile ebay bargain soon too.

I think it's safe to say Trikey has found more than one of those on mine recently.
