Default Aerial signal poor?

I rarely use my radio but recently tried it and the signal was very poor. Any suggestions as to possible weak points ? I understand that the heated rear screen is the aerial and yet all the screen heater appears to be working OK.

It's a harmony unit. It seems OK on Medium Wave stations though! The weather has been pretty bad the last couple of days, so not a good signal anyway.

That's funny, I thought it would be the other way round, as AM/Medium wave are looking to be phased out due to broadcasters migrating to FM & DAB.

I've fitted a new amplifier, cleaned up all the earths and connections and it's still the same. Good on MW but FM is pants. Doh!

I reckon the problem is the rear window, many people have replaced it and cured the fault. The antenna and HRW share the same circuit, if there is a HRW fault in the glass, turning it on will sure mess up the signal path, hopefully what s b said may help.

I have been through the system with a tooth comb and found nothing, yet reception is pants

Both my saloon and estate have been poor, the estate especially so. It's been no better having moved, if anything its even worse.

Its also noticeably worse than the OH car.

UPDATE. The radio works perfectly when the ignition is in the accessories position. When the switch is turned to position 2, even with the engine not running, there is crackling, interference and loss of signal!

Interesting - thanks for that - I will check if the same occurs on mine. My radio reception is really bad - both with the Kenwood unit I got with the car and the Naval Star unit now fitted.
