Default Windscreen wipers wouldn't turn off

Driving home last night I put the washer jets on to clear the screen and the wipers wouldn't turn off until I pulled over and turned the engine off.

It was -3.5°C outside. Could the low temperature have frozen the switch mechanism?

All working correctly today.

I’d be checking the plenum chamber for water in the ecu if it’s a diesel.

Apart from blowing the fuse for the washer pump my car was fine

And I live less than two miles from the OP

I had a repeat occurrence of the my original post this morning, i.e. cold weather, operating the windscreen washers and the wipers won’t go off until I turn the engine off.

It doesn’t happen with the wipers alone, I’ve been using those loads with all the recent rain and never had an issue.

How is the timer for the wash / wipe controlled, as it appears there is no signal being sent to stop them.

At the end of my journey I did a test wash / wipe and typically the wipers go off as they should.

This might sound a bit random, but do your brake lights act up when your wipers are on a mad one?

I've got a brake light issue in damp cold mornings and I found that when they are playing up my wipers when put on the automatic mode go like crazy!

of the two wiper related issues i had on my 75 the two ideas that may help is this.your washer pump may have a issue .so the wipers think the pump is still running so they are wiping off the fluid that by now is not there.or as with mine when i had the wipers going up the screen of there own accord in time with the indicators.(quite smart really)this was down to a bad earth .the one behind the passenger side headlight inside the engine bay on the chassis leg.undo bolt clean and vaseline and then put it back.
