Thanks for that precise information.

I didn't realise power was quite so important.

My new Kenwood single din is 50W X4 Max Output power
22W X4 (at less than 1% THD) whatever that means

So I'm guessing I need an amp now?

The plot thickens; Any suggestions on which amp I haven't got a clue?

OMG. The Focals I was planning to get are 240W or 120 each speaker

Then it say's " handles up to 60 watts RMS (120 watts peak)

So now I'm completely confused??

Should I calculate 60X 1.5 = 90W amp

Or 120 x1.5 = 180W amp (seems a lot)

Cheers

Your headunit wont actually put out 50w, it's just marketing. I've pulled a random Kenwood single DIN headunit off the internet - 10A fuse for the whole unit. 10A @ 14.4v = 144w. 4 ways at 80% efficiency means 28.8w. Best case. If all it's doing is being an amplifier. But of course it has to run a tuner, screen etc too...

EDIT - You want a 2x 60w RMS amp. Although you really want a bit of headroom so you aren't driving it flat out all the time. And you have speakers in the rear doors, so you probably want a 4 channel amp instead. You can get something decent on eBay for less than £50. Budget £20 for the wiring tho.

All good info but if you're replacing the front speakers and the head unit, I'd run it like that for a few days/weeks before buying an amp and see if you need one - the sound will be som much better than the Rover offering you may feel you don't need to go any further. If you are going to fit an amp I'd make sure it has a channel you can use for a sub i.e. 3 channel running the front pair and a sub in the boot - makes a big difference.

Trust me, those tiny 20w or whatever he has WON'T be any close to good and enough, you definitely need an amp, and yes, you need a 90w per channel amp for the speakers you chose (60w RMS which is real continuous power x 1.5 = 90w RMS per channel amp( best case, I'd recommend the one that I have Boss R2504 (good quality, never had a problem with it). 50w max power means peak power, which is the max possible wattage the speakers will ever get to when demanded, bu the real continuous output is the RMS wattage. Thay you should look for when buying speakers. Cheers

I would like to improve the quality of my Radio reception - I have a set of 2 GT5 650C GT Series by JBL. Would these be an improvement to the existing speakers? Would i need anything to supplement? I have a Naval (new last February and the Sat Nav is fantastic with the Radio reasonable but would like it improved.
Please, any suggestions would be appreciated.
cheers
