Default 1.8 petrol engine just cut out on me

Happy new year all
Can anyone tell me why my 1.8 petrol engine died on me today.
After pushing it off the main road and managing to get my breath back, it restarted 5 minutes later as if nothing had happened!!
Is there a simple/ common affliction these basic engines suffer with which causes the engine to peeter out?
The only thing I can assume is that it was a damp morning, and it affected the electrics.
I've now chucked a tow rope in the boot for peace of mind.

Do a search for fabled orange clip, or FFS (fuel filter separation), and I'm sure you'll be on the right track

Check your filter for separation.

If the cause is down to filter separation, why has it only manifested itself once, and the engine still starts and runs fine most of the time.

I am experiencing the same problem right now!!!!

And it is my fuel filter!!!!

Perhaps pressure of the fuel linrs moving due to fuel pressure only causes it too be an intermitent problem.
