Default Supermarket/Branded fuel issue

I've never noticed the difference between supermarket and branded fuel before. Until today that is!

Having just had the 160 remap, I had noticed the engine was a little noisier, more of a diesel clatter upon initial acceleration. I had filled with Morrisons fuel before and after the remap, but today I used Shell Diesel Nitro Vpower (or whatever its called) and the diesel clatter has gone....

I've given up on using supermarket fuel, even to save a penny a litre. I have the luxury of having Tesco and a Shell station a mile in differant directions from my home, they are both price matched and you can guess which one I use.

Not sure if you can call supermarket fuel rubbish.

They still have to meet the minimal requirements in order to sell.

If you remap an engine you may need fuel with different additives but saying supermarket fuel is rubbish........................

I've been running my V8 on Tesco 95 since 2009. Occasionally ventured to Shell or Esso. Never noticed any difference.

People are very susceptive to subliminal information.................
  • If you pay more it must be better......
  • If it's a known brand it must be better............
  • My friend uses it so it must be better................

All of that is B*ll

Would try and avoid supermarket fuel unless it's for your lawnmower. It's cheap for a reason. In most cases you can get proper fuel at a similar price nearby.
In my experience better fuel brings a much more refined drive and less flat spots during acceleration. Happy to pay a few more pence personally.

I don't think that supermarket is cheap any more unless you earn more discounts by buying goods in the shop
