I thought it was a 5k mile service interval and I think the US always go with 10W30 in these engines. Doing it that frequently a semi-synth will be more than adequate.

Frankly, with today's oils, 3k oil changes is a complete waste of money and probably doing more harm to the engine. I still don't understand why the US pursue such short oil change intervals, it isn't necessary!
It's not just the oil and additive chemistry that's improved, petrol engines burn much cleaner now than they ever did. |

This guy knows his oil:
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ They are calling him doctor oil on pistonheads, heres one of the discussions on oil here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...3&t=237642&i=0 Theres a lot more to it than I thought! I've read through some of it and it seems if you use a rubbish oil, 3k changes looks like a good idea as it breaks down quickly. If you use a good quality fully synthetic then it will last longer, although not all quality synthetics are equal. I've emailed him to see what he recommends for the 260 engine and diff. |

He seems to know what he's talking about though, or explains it better than most.
I'll post up his recomendations for opinions if/when he gets back to me for info. I'd imagine he will recommend some sort of Silkoline oil. I'm interested to see what he says for the diff. My TVR had the same diff and the place I took it to would only use the oil Holden recommend, they used to get it from Australia. Problem is theres so much marketing guff with this sort of thing and they all claim to be the best one. I guess it just comes down to which one sounds the most credable.
