anyone have a K&N or pipercross filter fitted to their diesel?
anyone have a K&N or pipercross air filter fitted to their diesel 75/ZT? are they any good, worth it? mines got a front mounted intercooler and egr bypass, just wondering if a performance air filter would compliment that.
Heard K&N filters could affect the MAF if you add too much oil to the filter, has this happened to anyone? K&N is pretty expensive, pipercross is not bad in price but wondering if i should bother or not. Cheers |

Personally I'll rather stick too the original filter on our cars, its easy too think oh yeah don't change it as often anymore and that's when we forget they still get dirty and need checking. My vote Original filter all the way.

Save your hard earned and stick with a decent brand original, they are capable of plenty of flow and have a large surface area. Just change with every service to make sure you always have a clean one, they're cheap enough. Performance wise they make no difference what so ever, especially in a diesel.

Doesn't seem to offer any performance improvement.
It can be cleaned, but cleaning it is a major hassle. It makes much more sense just to get an OE one. I still fall for the marketing every time though... |

I refitted a K&N on mine and it made some difference, although that could have been that the OEM one was a bit grubby.
I didn't buy the K&N, it came with the car and I fitted a paper Britpart version instead of cleaning the K&N. |

Hi Rick. I've had a K&N fitted to mine for 6 years now with no issues at all concerning the MAF or anything else.
Never any noticeable difference in performance on mine but, coupled with your mods, it may complement them. Clean mine every service, once a year and lightly oil when dry. Think the problem people have is that they over oil after cleaning Cleaning is easy too, just make sure it's dry before oiling. BTW Rick, mines a direct replacement filter, not one of those induction things

It seems an improvement on both cars tbh. I think the air box is particularly restrictive on the L series diesel imo. The standard s2k Honda filter is a large cone made from paper so no filtration problems or oil contamination issues, and on the L series diesel you can hear the turbo now, and it feels smoother and seems to go better. It has an 80mm neck and even has a velocity stack built into the shape of the cone. It's a thumbs up from me! And only cost me £9! And in my opinion It is superior in every way to any equivalent K&N filter. Which in my opinion are over priced and don't even filter the air properly! Here's the £9 filter fitted to my ZT 190. Dunno if you have the room for it on a diesel ZT, but at just £9 it isn't going to brake the bank OR your motor. (unlike a K&N filter) Also highly regarded in Turbo Audi circles. Who have seen improved flow rates and dyno confirmed gains. Worth a go at the very least for the money?

I've 2 direct replacement K&N filters in the loft I bought them for our zt's but never got round to fitting them.
I really need to clear out all my spares as I no longer run the zt.
