Default Wireless connection help

We run a LAN network at home with four machines on it. One machine is plugged directly into the router with the other 3 picking the signal up via wireless.

I sometimes have difficulties in getting my Notebook to connect to the wireless network, even though the signal strength displayed in the 'view available networks' window on my notebook is shown as very strong (i.e. full 5 bars).

Would appreciate guidance on what I can do to solve the problem of strong signal displayed yet still getting 'unable to connect'.

Would usually indicate the router is busy and cannot accept the connection. The fact that it isn't busy does present a problem. In such circumstances I would usually swap the router for one a known good one for a few days and see how it gets on. If that is not possible then try rebooting the router when this problem occurs. Switch off router and wait full 10 seconds before switch on. If the problem does not re-occur after this test on a few occasions then the fault could be with the router.

That's that end. If the problem is on the PC end then you will need someone that knows that stuff to give you some hints.

Best of luck

Been getting the exact same problem with SWMBOs laptop.

Sorted it by changing the wireless channel in the routers options and in the options on the laptop. Change it from whatever it is, to say Ch 11 & try that.

Sometimes signal strength is not the same as Signal Quality.
I can get decent connection sometimes on 1 Bar in our static Caravan in garden but other times even with 4 bars not a Dicky Bird.
