SmartNav connection issues
The car I've recently bought has 'SmartNav' fitted, but I can't get the system to connect to the call centre, pressing the SmartNav button for two seconds, as per instructions, initiates a dial-out, quickly followed by the automated message 'the mobile network could not connect the call, smartnav will retry' this repeats until I cancel it. In between the automated failed connection message, there is a very faint sound which sounds like a "wrong number" tone - three sets of three ascending tones, then a gap, and then repeated with the automatic message repeated.
Obviously, the system cannot connect to the call centre and that's the catch-22 situation, if the call can't connect, the system can't be registered with smartnav. I spoke to smartnav and they confirmed that the car registration number is not registered on their system, Steve |

That sounds a logical step, I'll have a look tomorrow if the weather is OK, a quick search of the forum tells me that the smartnav unit should be fitted behind the glovebox, close to the BCU,
Steve

Its mounted alongside the BCU. If I recall just slacken the nuts a few turns as the smartnav box may have slots. You can remove it without disturbing the BCU. Remove glovebox fully and you will have good access.

Have you tried calling them from different locations?
I occasionally get that message and mine is registered with them.

I'me going to have a look at the communication unit tomorrow if the weather is OK, I'm presuming there is a SIM card in the unit, I'm going to check that it's present and that the connections to the unit are OK Steve |

There are a couple of units used but only one has a SIM card you can remove or access. Once you find the box you should see a red LED that flashes, if it's getting power, gps and gsm it should flash constantly. If not disconnect and check the connections, especially the GSM ariel lead
