Paddy O Comnell an Irish farmer received a letter from DWP stating that they suspected he was not paying his staff the minimum statutory wage. and would be sending an inspector round, to interview them .
When he turned up he asked about the staff. Paddy said well the farmhand gets 250 a week and a free cottage, the housekeeper 200 a week and free board. The halfwit works 16 hour days, does 90% of the work for about 25 a week, the occasional bottle of whisky and as a treat, gets to sleep with my wife now and then. That's disgraceful conditions, says the inspector, I need to interview this poor man right away! You're talking to him replied Paddy.
