ABS light on, no cruise control

Hi all, I have 2003 CDT estate, last week the ABS light stayed on and I've lost cruise control. The light on the cruise control switch illuminates, as does the symbol on the dashboard.

Checked all fuses, cannot find any chaffing on the wire to the front left hand sensor and I've cleaned the blue connector with electric circuit cleaner. In order to check the voltage going to the sensor I don't have anything to make a flying lead, so I cut the 2 wires and joined them with an electrical terminal block, therefore I could check the voltage. On one wire I had 0.006 volts and on the other I had 0.17 volts!! This was with the ignition on firstly and then with the engine running.

Do I need a new sensor? Would a short in the sensor itself lead to the extremely low voltage readings or have I done something wrong with my testing? Thanks as always for any help

Try measuring the voltage on the thicker wire with the sensor disconnected from the connector block to see if there is 12 v on it.

That's the red wire Brian (as opposed to the red wire with black tracer). Use the battery negative post as the earth connection for your voltmeter.

Have disconnected the sensor and readings are still the same as before, both with the ignition on and also with the engine running - red wire 0.17 VOLTS and red/black wire 0.006 volts!

Where have you cut the wire? Towards the sensor? I would unplug the blue connector and check the voltage there if so.

Brian,

Since these are active sensors can I suggest that you perform the same test on the driver's side and compare results?

Check that you are taking your measurements on the female side of the connector. It's not easy to get a reliable connection using the meter probes due to the deeply recessed terminals. You'll probably need to use a length of thin wire as an extension.
