Engine Bay Stainless Bolts Yum
Decided to get rid of all those rusting bolts and screw heads today on my ZT's slam panel area as I didn't want to go shopping with better half!
I've replaced the originals with dome headed design Stainless Steel. For the purists you could use Hex head bolts (as per original) but I think these look good & less sharp edges etc. Also raised the panel with spacer washers to reduce the bonnet gap a little! Worth doing cost about a tenner, what do you think? Last edited by Jules; 4th September 2008 at 08:58.. |

Yes well err, hadn't really thought about doing that but thinking about it then yes worth doing but you need to put three in the holes for the diesel air intake or convert your car to a diesel

Some of mine are going a bit rusty on my 75. Funnily enough, I went over the three affected ones yesterday with some anti-rust liquid, but they turned black. Better than rust, I suppose!
By the way Jules, did you take that excellent photo standing on your head? Very effective, but makes me feel quite dizzy....... |

Keith I hadn't noticed the 3 diesel holes, but now you mention it, mmm I can feel some fake bolt heads coming on or maybe squares of black tape grommets, she said what about poly filler

I too need to raisethe slam panel to try and improve (or reduce!) the gap - is it a full bumper off job or just the top bolts, insert washers and bolts back on? I don't feel like having a go at taking the whole bumper off again! Cheers

Bonnet Gap Reducing
Morning Christopher
No need to remove bumper for this little mod. Remove all the top bolts and you can lift bumper up enough with one hand to get 2 or 3 washers under each hole. Fiddly bit is keeping all the washer holes lined up (small screwdriver) while you put the bolts back, while easing bumper in backward direction aswell. Keep ckecking alignment with bonnet shut before bolts are fully tight. Cars are boring unless there's little jobs to do eh? |

So how does one improve bumper / bonnet / wing alignment on a facelift? Given that the outer part of the grille is part of the bumper..
