Don't forget folks if the elbow doesn't want to budge it may be due to a grub screw being added between the 2 seals !!
(on some where the anchorage fittings are loose, Steve Arctic and myself have adopted the above screw mod to vastly strengthen the integrity of the joint) The grub screw mod is highly recommend for the 160 cars amongst us The single 8mm bolt holding the elbow in just isn't up to the job (at 90 deg to the forces applied to it by the turbo pressure!!) This crazy design relies on the small anchorage points on the intercooler & radiator to hold the elbow in place. If the car has suffered a ground strike (vast majority have over sleeping policemen etc!) then the security of the elbow is compromised without the reinforcement mod as the intercooler brackets get cracked.

I am about to do my intercooler hose - is there a thread somewhere on adding the 'grub screw' mod to stop the elbow coming off ?
(I have seen the thread on replacing the hose without taking half the front of the car apart, but no mention of the 'grub screw', where you put it and how). Thanks Pete |

Intake manifold
Received a one piece (but will cut using old as a patters) today. Obviously I'll clean the EGR valve but surely, to do a proper job, one should clean the connecting Inlet manifold whic I propose to do. Anyway, has anyone done this yet? If so, can they point out any trip wires or indeed does one need any seals.
A how to would be great but I've done a search without any success Cheers John |

The angles on the old one will be way out due to the swelling

Took me no more than 40mins to fit mine along with an EGR bypass and that included cleaning the inlet manifold a bit, Found the thick ring (looks like a rubber band) on the inlet/egr joint was letting by so removed it put a thin circle of oring material behind it and put the original on top. Defo more torque and has a willingness to rev more although still non too happy higher up but then the valve was stuck in a half & half position..Just a blowing exhaust (I'll get them to gut the cat while under there) and the 160 to get done, Can't wait

In the absence of a response, I will go forward most carefully hopefully avoiding any trip wires. Will advise outcome.

Just picking up on your post. I did consider doing a how to but to be honest thought it was an easy job so I didn't bother. Just be careful cutting it and watch those fingers can I ask why didn't you order a 2 piece hose? It's just a case of removing the jubilee clips and fitting the new one the bottom jubilee might be awkward depending on where its situated so access could be awkward.

I will be fitting mine this afternoon, I have followed the how-to and it seems the bottom of the pipe is still fitted to the elbow, is that right?. The bottom clip screw is at a sharp angle so making it difficult to unscrew, can I just pull the elbow up with the pipe attached?. John.
