Fitted it today.
I knew mine wouldn't be the 10min job that some have found it. Apart from my ropey mechanic's skills, I always seem to come up against something awkward and this was no exception but at least it seems to have ended well (so far as I can tell). I was also installing the Viton O-rings and I used Artic's method (and excellent pics) for doing it without removing the bumper. But I fell at the second hurdle when the 8mm bolt on the radiator cowling holding the header tank crumbled (fig 4). But with a lamp down there I could see both the lower jubilee clip and the 8mm bolt holding the i/c bend so decided to give it a try without moving the header-tank. It was just possible to access the lower jubilee (which was luckily in the best possible position) with a long flat screwdriver down the side of the header-tank. Lost an 8mm socket and ratchet-driver adapter down there in the process (still can't find it) but, with my skinny arms, managed to use a 1/4" T-shaped bar with another 8mm to get the bolt off (fig 8). Only found one old O-ring, which was broken and fished out of the i-c, although it's possible the other one is down there because, with limited access, my fingers weren't long enough to get fully in there. Slightly awkward getting the new pipe over the I/c bend - access again - but a tiny smear of grease helped. As yet I've only run it up and down the road so no indication of any performance reaction but when I restarted it seemed to shudder for a second before normal tick-over. |

Silicone Intercooler pipe
Of course, it could be purely in my head but I think there is a definite improvement in pick-up with the new Silicone hose. the response seems that bit better.

Just catching up with this thread and glad to see these are finally with the owners.
I appreciate all the thanks guys but yous deserve the same as without the demand from owners the project wouldn't have got off the ground. The project did take longer than I expected but kept at it and were finally seeing the benefits of all our hard work. I was asked a question about the make up for these I'm sure I posted it many moons ago on the original thread but for those that missed it the manufacturer says "The hoses will be made using a Fluoro Silicone Polyester Liner and a 4 Ply Silicone - Polyester fabric reinforcement." So these should outlast the cars there fitted to. I'd say these are a must for all diesel owners and as there not available on there website yet I'll forward the details on how to order to any member that requires them. And no I'm not on commission all I got out of it was the prototype hose. I'll need to get another ordered for my wife's zt. Also if your not wanting to tackle this job yourself I'm available to fit these For you and if you haven't already done so get the viton O rings from Jules and I'll fit them at the same time.
