Default Failed MOT on brake hose assembly, few questions

Hey folks.

First time to ever fail an MOT and really can't believe that it was something so simple that we missed it in the first place.
Car was serviced and checked twice in past 4 weeks for the MOT. Only main item we had to fix was the handbrake. I have the compensator installed so it only needed tightened.

Said the car was in excellent condition. Even got compliments on the interior and how well looked after she is.
However it failed on the :

Brake hose assembly - fouling - offside front on disk backing plate

and

Brake pipe - corroded/pitted - nearside front.

So, contacted my MG specialist and will get these issues fixed ASAP. It does not seem like anything other than surface rust on the brake pipe. I will replace it however for peace of mind.

Not too sure what disk backing plate problem actually is. Any advice on that?

Have 18 days for re-test. Get it booked today and get this little niggle repaired.

It sounds like the flexible hose is rubbing on the splash guard.

For that to happen it must be detached from the bracket that holds it on the strut. Or it's too long. Very unusual.

Thanks for the photo. Could well be that.
Hopefully get the car looked at this week and will certainly post up about it so others can learn too in case they ever happen on the same issue.

I've got the dreaded mot this week lol. If a car fails the MOT does that mean that you can't actually drive it as it's technically not road worthy?

You can drive it home, thats all , until you book another MOT, then you can drive it to the test station.

You may find this helpful:

and I'm sure MOTMAN will be along to give accurate and honest advice sooner or later.

It's an offense to drive an unroadworthy car on the road irrespective of MOT (e.g. if you have bald tyre - it's an offense if you have 12, 1 or no months MOT).

It depends upon what it fails on, sometimes the fault can be so serious, that the car is no longer fit to take out on the road. Ask your inspector whether it is, or isn't fit to drive home.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

My current MOT is still valid for the rest of this week anyway.

I knew a fella who only ever bought total bangers of cars and I went along to his MOT once. The car was in such bad condition that after it failed the MOT they would not let him drive it home. They kept it there till it could be towed to a garage for repair.
Can't remember at all what was wrong with it. Must have been pretty bad though.

You might have corroded back plates and they might be bent out of shape to foul the hose. More likely the hose is not fitted in its clamp as suggested earlier. Have you had the strut off for any reason?
