Default Increase in untaxed vehicles

The number of vehicles without road tax - Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) - doubled to 560,000 this summer according to the Department for Transport's survey.

You can read HERE...

They are still managing to recover the money though... before the changes DVLA was clamping about 5,000 vehicles a month, but this has increased to more than 8,000.

The DVLA guys were around my neighbourhood last year with clamping teams, they clamped dozens along my street & two days later a fleet of recovery trucks appeared & took them away.

People are having their cars towed away and are being charged fines of as much as £800.

Yep A friend of a friend works in one of the crusher places & he says anything over 5 years old gets crushed regardless & anything under 5 years goes to the auctions.

edit; that's if the charges aren't paid.

At least under old system you couldn't get tax without insurance and MOT, now you don't display a disc it isn't obvious if a vehicle is taxed or not, and if not, that raises the question about insurance and MOT.

ANPR does of course know about all of those, but a 'warden' will have no idea when checking car parks, parking bays etc. - one would hope if you have neither a court case will follow with the vehicle crushed regardless. With monthly instalments on 2 out of 3 there really is little excuse, and no sympathy is due.
