Default Bonnet Cable Catch problem

Hi everyone.

My Bonnet will not open due to a cable problem. The lever is completly loose and does noyt feel connected at all. I understand that there is a way to open it without resorting to the destruction of the grill. Plese could someone in the know PM me the proceedure?

I thank you in advance.

Cheers

Toby.

Roverbarmy has previously linked to a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq3qoWvxEso which the OP might find useful.

The OP's question comes at a thoughtful time as I'll be doing a replacement fan next week for a local member and was wondering if it would be worthwhile doing some sort of emergency pull mod to the cables at the same time?

Regards

may be worth checking the two cables that go to the latches to make sure they are not fraying at the latch

Apologies to the OP for the slight hijack. All cables are fine and I usually immerse the bonnet catches in some D140 oil - but was thinking more of an emergency release like the boot.

Entertaining the thought of cable ties around the outer cable sheath binding perhaps flexible steel wire leading down to the inspection hatch in the wheelarch.

Should have started my own thread ... or kept quiet

Regards

I’ve done something similar to that, using a light piece of rope, should the worst happen (again)🙄.

I am just following up with my request for help with the R75 bonnet catch release.

Without giving too much away in the open forum. The members ‘sticky’ method described works fine. No cutting or ripping apart necessary.

After gaining access I could see my maintenance on the bonnet catches was poor. Hard dirt encrusted grease which stopped free movement of the secondary cables as the catches themselves were difficult to move. This must have caused the primary cable to stretch enough so it had no tension to pull the secondary cables, hence the bonnet not releasing.

On reassembling I turned the block over, filled with grease and clipped on the bonnet.

As I haven’t got a new primary cable yet for a temp solution,I disconnected it from the cabin lever, tied a knot in it and reassembled. This has given me enough tension until a new cable arrives.

Thanks everyone for your advise, much appreciated.

Toby
