Default Freedom of speech

Hi
Just read the sticky by Ken indicating that in this social forum you can say what you want on whatever topic you want. That doesn't now seem to be true.

Hi.
From a personal viewpoint, I think we are pretty lucky here as many forums some of the subjects would just not be allowed.
Also the area is open, you don't need to be a member to see it AFAIK so anything that is controversial is on view to the general public.
I've seen posts on the social forum that just about cross the line, the swear filter bypassed which is in contravention to the forum rules and not a lot done.
So I think we do not so bad, if the moderation was stepped up or the rules tightened then I think a lot of Political threads would be taken off, best not to rock the boat in my opinion.

To be fair the forum moderators are fairly tolerant, but as others have said this is not a debating society, but a place where we who are fortunate enough to own oa rover/mg car can gain help swop ideas even sell our cars. Yes there is a social forum to discuss items of interest, and if I am right rule 7.1 does forbid discussion of politics, understandably following recent events mods have allowed some latitude but maybe now those who wish to continue should do so on facebook where I am informed 1 in 7 people on planet have an account.
Thats a big enough audience surely

Facebook, the root of all evil is what my dad says. I'd be inclined to agree.

Ken's sticky re the Social Forum says it all. It's dependant on the contributors being, guess what, SOCIAL.

While politics (with a small p) might just about escape the wrath of the mods, blatant proselytising obviously would not. As far as I am aware that has never taken place. It shows how inclusive and broad minded the club is and is to be treasured.

I've never counted the sub forums on here but there must be a hundred, enough for virtually anybody to find what they want, in spades. So, it's all down to that old fashioned thing available to all, manners. But, there always is, along with manners comes responsibility.

Your Dad is correct. Closely followed by Twitter where the relatively new adage "too many tweets make a NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-" is now a truism

The best description of Facebook is along the lines of :-

Accruing lots of "Likes" on Facebook is like sitting on the 'Cool' table in a mental asylum

It does indeed but I would ignore his caveat "put your glasses on the bar before leaving". They are best kept imo so that you can watch your back while denying someone an excuse to show you the door lol.

Default Fine line

There is a fine line between freedom of speech and stuff that seriously upsets someone or is downright nasty. Everyone judges these lines slightly differently but if Mods stop folk getting hurt/upset/ insulted then I am happy to live with it.
Remember nobody gets it right all the time but these decisions are made with best intentions. Better to err on the side of caution. We are after all a car club and we actually have a fairly good and lively social section.

Just my opinion of course and like all things where judgement is required different people have different opinions.

There is only free speech, as long as you agree with who's in charge.
